My name is Hollister David. Most call me Hop.

I live in Ajo, Arizona, a small desert community about 40 miles north of Mexico and 70 miles north of the Gulf of California.

Ajo used to be a mining community but the copper mine shut down in 1983. Most of the homes that used to house miners have been bought by folks from colder places that like to live in Ajo during our mild winters. (Most with money and good sense go away during the summer.)

My sister Gabrielle and I own a weekly newspaper here. The Ajo Copper News is a combination community bulletin board and letter from home. We also do printing and sell office supplies.

Ajo is a quiet little town. I don't think any place like Mayberry exists in this world but Ajo is close.

Living in the city, you have to endure a lot of B.S.  I like it here.

To the left is me at my place of work. My title is publisher but no one is sure exactly what it is that I do around here.

Below is my wife, Margarita who is a letter carrier for the U.S. Post office. She's kind of ornery.

To the right is my daughter Nicolette (born 1986). She don't like spiders but she do like snakes.

Below is an early picture of my elder daughter Nellie (born 1983) giving Nicolette her bottle.

My
Bro
Joe

This is kind of a whimsical drawing of my brother Joe.

When he would make weird noises with his clarinet, our dog Charlie would tilt her head and spread her ears.

Charlie dog adored Joe and seemed to consider him a strange and magical being.

Which he is.

Another pic of my brother Joe with the cat Thunder. This was 1961 thereabouts.
Below is a pic of my dad Dick David with Charlie Dog. Dad passed away in 1983.
My Sister Gabrielle

This is my sister and business partner Gabrielle with her son Gery, daughter Paula and grand daughters Ashlee and Danielle.

Besides being the editor of the Ajo Copper News she is also an paramedic for the Ajo Ambulance.

She helped found our Ambulance and Health Service District. She has worked very hard with others in trying to improve health care in our town of Ajo.

Gabrielle's ornery too.
I am surrounded by ornery women.

Michelle Pacheco

This is the Ajo Copper News office manager Michelle Pacheco and her daughter Dominique. Her husband is Joe Pacheco

As you can probably guess, she plays the drums. I wish I had a better photo of her but she hides when the camera comes out.

She's not quite as ornery as my wife and sister but with practice she'll get there.

Drawing, math, reading and playing the flute are some of my favorite past times.
I enjoy reading science fiction. Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov and Larry Niven are a few of my favorites.

If you've seen my other pages you know I'm a little obsessed with the artist M.C. Escher.
Other artists I like: Roger Dean (Yes album covers), Rick Griffin (Grateful Dead album covers),
Kelly Mouse (Grateful Dead, Journey album covers) and Theodore Giesel (aka Dr. Suess).

My tastes in music are very eclectic, everything from hip hop to classical.
I am partial to these groups because of their flute players though:
Jethro Tull, Marshal Tucker, Traffic, Camel, and the Moody Blues.

Hop's Pages

Hop's Escher Like Tiles

Tessellating Blocks Toys that tessellate have the power to approximate any shape.

Delta Blocks (Inspired by Escher) This page discusses my toy which was inspired by M.C. Escher's print Flatworms.  Flatwormsshows a structure made from the octahedron/tetrahedron tessellation. The octahedron, tetrahedron structure was also promoted by Buckminster Fuller.

Ram's Horn. A ram's horn spiral plus some spiral tessellations.

Buckminster Fuller's Octetruss This page briefly discusses Buckminster Fuller's invention based on the octahedron/tetrahedron tessellation. For more on Fuller please go to the Links to Other Folks Pages page.

Other Escher Ideas
Escher Perspective Study This page discusses perspective, also features one of my drawings - "Crab".

Escher Dyson Sphere To me this print by Escher looks like a Dyson Sphere! I wonder what he would have thought of this bizarre interpretation.

Curl-Ups as Robots? I asked a Dutch friend to translate the Escher print "Curl Ups". His comments suggest Curl Ups as robots. His translation and comments are on this page.

Miscellaneous
Fractals from Kepler's Solids This page discusses a fractal idea I had, plus illustrations.

Double Tetrahedron Fractal. A three dimensional  version of the double triangle fractal. This model is incomplete and not very well done. However, I think it suggests an likable family of fractals. This family has an interesting connection with the golden mean

Some thoughts on Christianity
